Module 7: Agreements
Learn about farm occupancy and operational agreements: tenancies, contract & share farming and joint ventures at various levels of the supply chain. Learn about future agri-environmental policy and its interaction with private market agreements looking at carbon, biodiversity and natural capital.
Aims
The module aims to facilitate trainees to:
- To give a legal overview of farm management agreements
- To provide an understanding of the principles and practices of farm occupancy agreements
- To outline the requirements and benefits of farm operation agreements
- To outline the new support agreements and the opportunities available to monetise environmental services through public schemes and private markets

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the day each trainee will be able to:
- Understand the legal detail of agreements
- Evaluate and describe the principles and details of agricultural tenancies (under the 1986 and 1995 Acts), licences and other short term occupancy agreements
- Assess the features and benefits of farm operation agreements including contract and share farming arrangements as well as Joint Ventures
- Understand the opportunities provided by the new support and environmental schemes through the Environmental Land Management Schemes and how to benefit from them
