Module 2: Owning your Story – Presenting & Communicating with Confidence
Fine tune your presentation skills, learn how to handle the media and thrive in a complex political landscape.
Aims:
The module aims to facilitate trainees to:
- Develop skills to enable effective communication with the media, wider public and within your own professional network.
- Understand how the media operates and what journalists are looking for.
- Understand what makes a story and how to tell it.
- Distil complex information into accessible, succinct, down to earth language.
- Practice interview skills and techniques.
- Overcome fears about working with the media, sharing your story and speaking out publicly.
Topics:
The topics covered in the module will include:
- Why is storytelling an important skill in business?
- What makes a story?
- How to hook an audience
- Story pitching tips
- Interview dos and don’ts
- The power of knowing how to ask a good question
- Practical pitching exercises and radio interview role play
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the day each trainee will be able to:
- Understand storytelling on a deeper level.
- Engage with the media and wider public positively and constructively.
- Improve personal communication skills.
- Handle yourself in an interview situation, and know how to interview others.
- Share your story with confidence and a smile.
