Renewables in a Rapidly Changing World

Volatile energy prices strengthen the case for farm renewables. Falling technology costs add to the opportunity, but grid connections can still make or break a project.

James Miles-Hobbs of JMH Farming & Renewables expects these pressures to accelerate adoption by farmers and landowners. Between 2004 and 2025, average business electricity prices rose by around 515%, compared with 116% for RPI.

Although prices have fallen from their 2023 annual peak, the long-term rise far exceeds inflation.
