Regenerative agriculture frequently gets a mixed reception amongst supply chain partners from farmers to users such as maltsters, millers, brewers and distillers. Yet there is a surprising consensus once you get behind the noise and it is now moving at scale with partnerships linking the entire supply chain interested in risk reduction in an ever-uncertain climate. Data variability is often the prime reason for scepticism, yet there are procedures in place to define acceptable schemes such that they can be used to validate sequestration claims such as under the legally-binding CSRD regulation in Europe. Since the UK Sustainability reporting standard (UK SRS) references CSRD as a benchmark, it is of interest to UK farmers and their customers to realise the potential of such harmonisation.
