A new toolkit from the Slimers project is aiming to improve how UK farmers tackle one of their most persistent pests – the grey field slug.

The Slimers Toolkit, developed through the Strategies Leading to Improved Management and Enhanced Resilience against Slugs (Slimers) project, combines soil mapping, artificial intelligence and farmer-led monitoring to improve prediction and control of slug outbreaks.

Combining three years of research, the programme included over 100 UK farms and several partner organisations, including BOFIN (British On-Farm Innovation Network), the UK Agri-Tech Centre, Harper Adams University, John Innes Centre, Agrivation, Fotenix, and Farmscan Ag. The project was funded by DEFRA’s Farming Innovation Programme and delivered by Innovate UK.
