The figures for our Friesian Farm dairy model have been updated for our Autumn Webinar. The table below shows the actual results for the last two years, a forecast for the current year, and an initial budget for the 2027/28 milk year.
To recap, Friesian Farm is a notional 220+ cow business in the Midlands with a milk contract on a constituent basis. It has a year-round calving system, like much of the UK industry, but it is trying to maximise yield from forage. The figures are for milk years – April to March.
For the 2024/25 year milk prices were strong. Overhead costs went up, the upwards pressure on dairy wages playing a large part in this, but a good Farming Margin was achieved. The farm also went into the SFI. This added a useful amount to the bottom line (although there are costs to the scheme which are included in the farming margin). For 2025/26, the average milk price for the year was also good. Total Output was boosted by very high beef prices improving values for culls and calves. The farm produced a good Margin from Production. The Basic Payment reduced to just £7,200 (the maximum per business), but adding the SFI resulted in a very good Business Surplus once again.
