Academics from the Computer Science and Biosciences Departments at Durham University are developing a new research proposal aimed at creating a lower-cost and more practical way of monitoring pollinators, crop pests and beneficial insects in agricultural environments.
The team is currently developing a proposal for the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) for a project called LYNCEUS – Biology-Informed Vision for Low-Cost Agriculturally-Relevant Monitoring of Pollinators, Pests and Natural Enemies.
LYNCEUS aims to create a fundamentally different approach to automated insect monitoring.
