Cost, carbon monitoring and certification are barriers to scaling enhanced rock weathering in agriculture.

With wide recognition of the climate mitigation potential of farmland, as well as global concern around soil quality, volcanic rock dust has come to mainstream attention in recent years as a potentially impactful soil amendment.

But while supportive evidence stacks up, other research is showing that there are still creases to iron out before what is known as enhanced rock weathering can deliver its purported benefits at scale.
