Farming in 2026 generates more data than ever before, but for many businesses the greatest challenge is connecting and using data effectively. At Overbury Farms in Gloucestershire, longstanding RASE member Penelope Bossom and farm manager Jake Freestone have been tackling exactly that problem.
Penelope Bossom, managing partner of Overbury Enterprises and winner of the 2009 RASE Bledisloe Gold Medal for Landowners, oversees Overbury Farms, a 1,565ha Cotswold arable enterprise where Jake Freestone leads a regenerative farming system integrating cover crops and sheep.
Overbury Farms has long combined progressive farming with early adoption of technology. Penelope’s family were among the first in Britain to use tractors and combines, and today the focus has shifted to connected sensors that provide real-time data for farm management. For this to work, connectivity is essential, which led to Overbury Farms getting involved in the River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region project as a Digital Innovation Farm.
