Have your say on the future of agricultural research and innovation

Published on February 26th, 2026

The Society of Agriculture is encouraging members and the wider sector to contribute to the forthcoming State of Agricultural Research & Innovation (SARI) report — a major strategic evidence base designed to inform research organisations and funders across the UK.

Led by the Centre for Agricultural Research Impact (Ag.Impact), and commissioned in collaboration with Defra, UKRI, the devolved governments, universities and research institutes, SARI aims to deliver the most comprehensive review to date of UK agricultural research. Its findings will help shape future investment and ensure research delivers meaningful, real-world impact — from improving farm productivity to supporting nature recovery and strengthening climate resilience.

The project is gathering data on research funding and activity, sector capacity, and the infrastructure available to UK researchers. This evidence will be analysed alongside the priorities and perspectives of farmers, researchers and other stakeholders.
