The Society of Agriculture (SocAg) has taken an important step forward in its ambition to establish Chartered Status for Agriculture, bringing together leading professional organisations from across the sector to begin a collaborative, inclusive journey.
At a roundtable meeting held in Westminster in early February, senior representatives from recognised professional bodies met as the first Agricultural Assembly – a collective forum designed to ensure shared leadership, transparency and sector-wide engagement in the development of chartered recognition.
The discussions marked the start of a long-term, collaborative process to build a credible and respected chartered framework that reflects the breadth and professionalism of modern agriculture. Participants explored how chartered status could strengthen professional identity, improve public confidence, and provide a clear, independent benchmark of competence across farming, advisory, technical, environmental and allied professions.
